THERMAL PROPERTIES
CELCRETE'S low thermal conductivity (U value) combined with the thermal mass effect very effectively moderates high and low temperature extremes, retaining the interior warmth of a house in winter and excluding the high outside temperatures in summer. It stores heat from the sun and other sources, gradually releasing it into the home when the initial energy source is no longer available. Consequently, as well as providing a comfortable living environment the material can also lower energy costs of cooling and heating, and in most cases makes the use of additional thermal insulation unnecessary.
Source - Fraunhofer Institute for Architectural Physics - Germany

To demonstrate how the combination of R-value, thermal mass and air-tightness work together, AAC was tested at the Fraunhofer Institute for Architectural Physics in Germany. The test measured surface temperatures of a 10" (25cm) AAC wall over a 24 hour period. An exterior wall that received maximum sun exposure was used, with the exterior surface painted black. While the outside temperature fluctuated by over 126~F (50~C), the inside wall temperature maintained a comfortable 68~F (20~C
with only a +/-2~F (+/-1~C) fluctuation.
The chart above shows the result of this test.

ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE
CELCRETE'S high surface mass coupled with the mechanical vibration energy damping within it's highly cellular structure produces exceptional sound absorption properties. It greatly reduces outside environmental noise pollution and the indoor echo effect, providing a quieter, more comfortable interior environment.

FIRE RESISTANCE
CELCRETE is non-combustible, having an ignitability index of zero. A 100mm thick CELCRETE wall has a 4 hour fire resistance which is more than is required for any normal domestic or commercial exterior wall. During a fire it does not emit any toxic gases or vapours and has a melting point of over 1100 º C.

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH
Unlike conventional hollow core masonry units, CELCRETE is a solid block. The entire surface of the block is used in structural calculations, not just the face shell and web areas as with conventional masonry units. Therefore a single CELCRETE block can safely support an axial load of 20 tonnes.

MOISTURE PROTECTION

CELCRETE'S structure of small air bubbles evenly distributed throughout the material allows only minimal absorption of water by capillary action.

This structure allows the material to breathe. It is vapour permeable, enabling atmospheric equilibrium to be maintained, but is, unlike standard concrete, impervious to water. The material is not therefore susceptible to harmful moulds and mildews.

DURABILITY
CELCRETE is an extremely durable, low maintenance product that comfortably surpasses the New Zealand Building Code requirements for minimum life. It will not warp or rot, is resistant to destructive pests and will withstand any impact likely to occur in normal domestic or commercial environment. A home built of CELCRETE gives the quality, feel and permanence of a true masonry home.

WORKABILITY AND DESIGN
CELCRETE is consistent in terms of it's quality and dimensional accuracy. It's ability to be readily shaped, cut and drilled on site enhances it's design flexibility to fit any situation. It lends itself to modular construction of buildings designed in 300mm modules, an approach that minimizes on site cutting and wastage. Additional design features such as quoins and corbels can be easily added. On site handling is also easier due to it's relatively lighter weight. The ease of cutting and chasing the material allows the easy installation of wiring and other services after the erection of the walls thus eliminating the need to pre plan and install services ducting into the walls.

ENVIRONMENTAL

CELCRETE is a purely natural mineral based building material made from raw materials that are in abundant supply around the world. It is free of pollutants and toxic substances. One cubic metre of raw materials produces 4 5 cubic metres of finished product. The production process emits no pollutants and all waste is recycled back into production. It can be truly regarded as an environmentally friendly material.

When used in conjunction with recommended mineral based plaster and paint systems CELCRETE creates a healthy and comfortable environment within a home that enhances the well-being of the occupants.

ECONOMICS

CELCRETE is cost competitive with standard concrete masonry blocks and imitation masonry products. Buildings constructed of AAC blocks do not require additional insulation materials to be added to the walls, thereby further reducing costs. With CELCRETE blocks now being available in heights of up to 400mm laying time is considerably reduced.

Interior strapping and lining is not necessary with CELCRETE. Plasterboard and tiles can be directly fixed to interior walls or they can be plastered, thus reducing costs.

Significant savings can be made in heating and cooling energy costs by building with CELCRETE.

The quality, permanence and low maintenance costs will enhance the long term value of a CELCRETE home.
